Visiting the Twin Cities
With its unique blending of cultures, trends, and must-see tourist sites, the Twin Cities area of Minnesota rarely fails to deliver as an A+ destination. And as the late summer yields to fall and winter, you’ll be treated to an impressive array of things to see from cities like Burnsville and Coon Rapids, to St. Paul and White Bear Lake.
Sports fans visiting the Twin Cities this time of year will be presented with a wealth of excellent options. You can check out the 41st Ryder Cup, one of the premier biannual golf tournaments of the year. Watch from September 27th to October 2nd as the best of best from Europe take on the USA’s top players at Hazeltine Golf Club.
On October 15th you’ll want to visit the Xcel Energy Center for an exciting NHL showdown – it’s the hometown Minnesota Wild vs. the Winnipeg Jets. Later in the fall, the Wild take on the Calgary Flames on the November 15th. And for the NFL fan in the group, be sure to check out the Minnesota Vikings as they face longtime rival Detroit Lions on November 6th at the brand new U.S. Bank Stadium.
The fall in the Twin Cities will also yield an eclectic batch of live music and other staged productions. From October 18th through 23rd, you can catch the popular show Stomp at the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts, while late November sees two excellent bands come to town – Straight No Chaser at the Pantages Theatre in Minneapolis on November 27th, and James Vincent McMorrow takes the stage on November 18th at the First Avenue venue.
If your visit to the Twin Cities is slated for slightly earlier in the late summer, be sure to explore the 2016 Minnesota State Fair. Centrally located in St. Paul, and a short drive from nearby suburbs like Oakdale, Eagan, and Brooklyn Center, the Minnesota State Fairgrounds will host this years fair from August 25th to September 5th.
Northwest of Minneapolis in St. Cloud, make it a night to remember when you visit on October 15th. Head for the Paramount Center for the Arts at 7:30 p.m. for a live production of Sleeping Beauty, presented by the Houston Ballet II. The drive in from nearby Monticello is quick and scenic along Interstate 94.
