Visiting the Twin Cities
The people of the Twin Cities invite visitors to embrace the cold this winter. From the urban anchors of Minneapolis and St. Paul to the suburbs of Oakdale, Monticello, and St. Cloud, indoor and outdoor fun abounds in the form of pro sports, festivals and carnivals, and family-friendly activities. It's a great time to experience the Twin Cities.
The Minnesota Vikings have been heating up the field at TCF Bank Stadium since the 2015 NFL season started in September. Entering December, the Vikings lead the always-tough NFC North division, all but guaranteeing a playoff spot, which could extend their season deep into January. Check the schedule during your visit to witness the hard-hitting action first hand.
When the Vikings do finally hang it up for the year, the focus of area sports fans shifts to the Target Center, where the Minnesota Timberwolves host NBA action several nights a week. Nearby, the Minnesota Wild shred the ice at Xcel Energy Center, bringing the fast-paced intensity of the NHL to St. Paul. Both teams’ seasons go into mid-April.
The Xcel Energy Center will also play host to the 2016 US Figure Skating Championships, January 16th through 24th. The annual event features the world’s best figure skaters dazzling audiences with a boundary-pushing array of Salchows, Lutzes, and Axels.
Don’t leave all the action to the pros – the 2016 City of Lakes Loppet Ski Festival is February 5th through 7th, inviting skiers of all ages and skill levels to take part in a unique cross-country skiing event. Strap in and make your way from Theodore Park to uptown Minneapolis, or just join in the variety of sideline festivities.
Minneapolis may not be as famous for its beer as Milwaukee, but the Twin Cities area is home to countless craft breweries. On February 6th, you’re invited to sample the suds of more than 120 local, regional, and national breweries at the 2016 Beer Dabbler Winter Carnival at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. The pours start at 3:30 p.m.
