Visiting the Twin Cities
Summer continues in the Twin Cities, and so does the best weather of the year. Still, it’s more than just sunshine and mild temperatures ready to greet this season’s visitors – the people of Minneapolis, St. Paul, and surrounding communities from Burnsville to St. Cloud host an array of special events, festivals, big-league sports, and activities for everyone in the family.
It’s the perfect time of year to explore the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area, which spans 72 miles of Mississippi River shoreline in Minneapolis. In addition to a wealth of outdoor recreation opportunities, an exploration of the Recreation Area leads visitors to iconic attractions like the Stone Arch Bridge, the Guthrie Theatre, and Historic Fort Snelling.
The Minnesota Twins’ 2015 season is in full swing and there’s no better way to soak up a little sunshine than a day at Target Field enjoying America’s Pastime. Check the schedule during your Twin Cities-area visit – the MLB season goes through the first week of October.
Football fans are delivered from the dog days of summer in mid-August, when the Minnesota Vikings gear up for preseason action. On August 15th, get a look at the Vikes’ 90-man roster as they host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the preseason opener at TCF Bank Stadium. Then, on September 20th, cheer on the Purple and Gold as they defend home field against division rivals, the Detroit Lions, in the first home game of the regular season.
The Twin Cities are a mecca for first-rate entertainment all year round, and this season the Xcel Energy Center event calendar promises appearances by some of pop culture’s biggest names. September 11th through 13th, the reigning princess of pop music, Taylor Swift, performs as part of her 1989 World Tour. Then, the Queen herself stops by – Madonna brings her Rebel Heart Tour to Xcel on October 8th.
Bring the family to the historic Orpheum Theatre to see a couple of classics brought to life this season. Rogers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella brings its Tony Award-winning production, September 8th through 13th, and the next month, Disney’s the Little Mermaid is a hit Broadway musical adaptation of the animated film.
