Visiting Twin Cities
The Twin Cities are an urban hub and cultural mecca for Minnesota, providing visitors with virtually limitless options for things to see and do during a visit to St. Paul, Minneapolis, and surrounding communities like Bloomington, Saint Cloud, and Eagan. Sports, arts, music, cultural festivals – this summer, the Twin Cities have something for everyone.
The Minnesota Twins draw baseball fans to Target Field, in downtown Minneapolis, as they go to bat against the best teams in the American League West division of Major League Baseball through the end of September. Witness the action as the Twins host division dominators the Detroit Tigers in a four-game series, August 22nd through 26th, and then again for a three-game series, September 15th through 17th.
Families visiting the Twin Cities with young children won’t want to miss the 2014 Minnesota State Fair. The 12-day event goes from August 21st to September 1st, providing traditional fair fun, from food on a stick to midway games, agricultural exhibits, parades, entertainment, and rides. The “Great Minnesota Get-Together” takes place at the State Fairgrounds in St. Paul.
Kids will also get a kick out of the Circus Juventas Annual Summer Spectacular at the Circus Juventas Big Top, August 1st through 17th. This summer’s production is “Neverland,” in which acrobats tell the story of the legendary Peter Pan through high-flying stunts and thrilling theatrics.
A variety of free cultural festivals fill the summer calendar this year. The Little Mekong Market is a lavish night market, igniting your senses with the unique offerings of local restaurants and artisans at the Mai Village on select Saturday nights now through September 6th.
On August 8th through 10th, the 6th Annual Twin Cities Polish Festival fills the Minneapolis Riverfront District with traditional Polish cuisine, music, dancing, and entertainment. On the same day, down southeast along the banks of the Mississippi River, the 2014 Irish Fair of Minnesota celebrates authentic Irish heritage with food, dancing, traditional sports, live music, and a Celtic marketplace. The free fun starts Friday at 3 p.m. at Harriet Island.
