Visiting Twin Cities

The Como Park Zoo and Conservatory, located between Minneapolis and Saint Paul, welcomes visitors every day of the year, and admission is free. Unfortunately, Como Parks Cafesjian’s Carousel and Como Town Amusement Park are closed, however winter is a good time to view the zoo animals, who tend to be active in the cold.

Join the excitement of Minnesota Timberwolves NBA action at the Target Center in downtown Minneapolis. Now in the middle of the 2013-2014 season, the Timberwolves keep the heat on through mid-April. Next door in Saint Paul, the Xcel Energy Center is home ice for the NHL Minnesota Wild, also in the midst of their 2013-2014 season. The last home game is April 13th.

Call it "the Bank" or "the Gopher Hole," either way TCF Bank Stadium, on the Minneapolis campus of the University of Minnesota, is home to the 2014 Hockey City Classic. Join the fun and excitement of traditional outdoor hockey with both women’s and men’s Gopher hockey on January 17th. See the women take on Minnesota State at 4:30 p.m., followed by the men facing off with Ohio State at 8 p.m.

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board hosts the 2014 Lake Harriet Winter Kite Festival January 18th. Join the 13th Annual Kite Festival near the Bandshell at the north end of Lake Harriet. Along with a beautiful blue Minnesota winter sky filled with colorful balloons, enjoy ice fishing, snowshoeing and wagon rides.

Mid January is great time for winter fun in Twin Cities. The 2014 U.S. Pond Hockey Championships are January 17th through 19th at Lake Nokomis. South of downtown Minneapolis north of the Crosstown Highway, Lake Nokomis hosts multiple divisions on twenty-six pond hockey rinks. As they say, this is hockey the way nature intended.
