Visiting Twin Cities

Minnesota’s capital city of Saint Paul launches into the summer season with the 40th Anniversary of Grand Old Day, Sunday June 2nd. The 2013 event marks Saint Paul’s first rite of summer, launching the Twin Cities festival season. Stake out your spot along Grand Avenue for the Grand Old Days Parade marching from Dale Street to Fairview Avenue.

Check out the new Home and Garden District along with the traditional Family Fun Activities District, Sporting District and Entertainment District. Sample from over 150 food vendors and for music lovers there is a teen battle of the bands, talent show, and multiple stages.

South of Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport is the Mall of America, one of Minnesota’s most popular destinations. In addition to shopping and more shopping, Mall of America is home to Minnesota Sea Life Aquarium featuring more that 10,000 sea creatures – the perfect distraction for dad and the kids while mom power shops.

Eagan ten-miles south of Bloomington is home to Cascade Bay Waterpark. One of the Midwest’s largest outdoor water parks, Cascade Bay is a must for summer travelers to the Minneapolis-Saint Paul area. The park is open June 1st through Labor Day Weekend.

Target Field in downtown Minneapolis fills all summer long with fans cheering on hometown favorites, the Minnesota Twins. Meanwhile visitors and residents of Minnesota’s largest city enjoy events like the 2013 Minneapolis Aquatennial, July 12th through 20th, and the Minneapolis Fringe Festival from August 1st to 11th.

Top off summer vacation in Saint Paul at the 2013 Minnesota State Fair August 22nd through Labor Day Weekend September 2nd. The fair adventure park and attractions offer an abundance of family fun; see the best of Minnesota exhibited at the fair competitions and contests; and enjoy horse shows and rodeo at the Lee & Rose Warner Coliseum. Saint Paul offers ideal end of summer fun at the Minnesota State Fair.

Lake Nokomis Naturescape Gardens in Minneapolis celebrates the 2013 migration of the Monarch Butterfly at the Minneapolis Monarch Festival, Saturday, September 7th. Family events include the Kid’s Butterfly Fun Runs and art activities. Enjoy live entertainment on stage with dance performances and musicians, and watch as the University of Minnesota’s Monarch Lab releases monarchs to begin their migration south.
