Visiting the Twin Cities
While the frigid Minnesota winter may seem frightful, communities throughout the Twin Cities embrace the cold with an abundance of holiday celebrations, festivals, awesome sports, and more. From St. Cloud to Coon Rapids to Burnsville, the Twin Cities are as alive as ever this winter.
But if you’re looking to avoid the cold in Minneapolis, then feel free to check out one of the city’s pro sports teams this winter season. The Minnesota Vikings will be finishing up their 2016 regular season, hopefully with a playoff berth, at brand new US Bank Stadium. Nearby, the Minnesota Timberwolves and Minnesota Wild’s seasons will be heating up at the Target Center and Xcel Engery Center. The Wolves will be trotting out one of the NBA’s most promising young rosters, so you won’t want to miss it.
It’s not all hoops, hits, and hockey in the Twin Cities – Lowertown First Fridays light up Saint Paul each month all winter long with art gallery openings and more community-based festivities. It all gets underway at 6 p.m. on the first Friday of each month in Lowertown St. Paul.
Get some holiday shopping done at the Eagan Community Center this winter, as Eagan’s Indoor Winter Market offers plenty of unique goods and gifts all season long. The market is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. from November 5th through February 25th.
For three days in December, Twin Cities’ visitors are invited to get into the holiday spirit via the 2016 Holiday Lights Tour. On December 3rd, December 10th, and December 17th, a festive motorcoach travels through Bloomington, showcasing the best of the city’s holiday lights displays. The tours depart from the world-famous Mall of America.
If you’ll be in town for New Years, be sure to check out 2016 Family New Year’s Eve Party at Lebanon Hills Visitor Center in Eagan for an evening of candlelight hiking, snowshoeing, ice skating, bonfires, and more. It all gets underway December 31st at 5 p.m. with things things wrapping up early at about 8 p.m.
After the holidays are over, St. Paul keeps the winter spirit alive during the 2017 Saint Paul Winter Carnival, taking place at various venues from January 26th until February 5th.
