Visiting Twin Cities
Minnesota’s Twin Cities are transitioning from winter to spring. As the ice at the Guidant John Rose MN Oval gives way to warm temperatures, North America’s largest outdoor refrigerated skating facility fills with inline skaters. April brings the end of the NBA Timberwolves regular season at the Minneapolis Target Center, as the WNBA Minnesota Lynx prepare to launch their season in May. MLB spring training for the Minnesota Twins wraps up in March, giving way to opening day at Target Field on April 1st. April also brings the opening of the Minnesota Stars soccer season. The Stars host the Scorpions Saturday, April 6th, launching the 2013 season.
Managed by the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority, Minneapolis’ Hubert Humphrey Metrodome is home to both the NASL Minnesota Stars and the NFL Minnesota Vikings. The Metrodome spring calendar is full of star matches and entertainment events. The March calendar features the end of regional college baseball including the University of Minnesota Gophers. Be sure to see the Monster Energy Supercross/FIM World Championship at the Metrodome on April 13th.
The Twin Cities gets a jump on spring at the Minneapolis Home and Garden Show. The Minneapolis Convention Center hosts the 2013 show February 27th through March 3rd. See the latest products and ideas for your spring and summer home and gardening projects.
Also hosted at the Minneapolis Convention Center is the 2013 Northwest Sportshow, March 21st through the 24th. This is the place to see the latest gear and equipment for your outdoor fun. Sportshow events include appearances by the stars of Hillbilly Handfishin’, lumberjack competitions and fly-fishing demonstrations. Make plans for your summer fun at the Minneapolis Sportshow.
Bicycle enthusiasts mark June on your calendars for the Nature Valley Bicycle Festival. The 2013 festival begins with the Fixed Gear Classic, June 6th through the 8th in Blaine, at the NSC Velodrome. The Minneapolis Bicycle Festival features Gran Fondo rides for spectators and professionals. The spectator rides include 15-mile and 32-mile rides past sites including Calvary Hill, views of the Red Cedar River Valley and Star Hill.
