Visiting Minnesota

Minnesota, the North Star State and Land of 10,000 Lakes, is diverse and filled with adventure. Life in Duluth on Minnesota’s shoreline of Lake Superior revolves around the world’s largest freshwater lake. Rochester in southern Minnesota welcomes visitors from around the world to the Mayo Clinic. Called the Med City, Rochester is Minnesota’s largest city outside Minneapolis and Saint Paul. Alexandria, Detroit Lakes and Fergus Falls are classic towns of the Minnesota Lakes region, where warm weather means water recreation and year-round activities like fishing, hunting and trail riding, keeping residents and visitors on-the-go. Traversed by the Mississippi River and gifted with abundant natural resources, Minnesota visitors are happy.

Minnesota’s north shore region is dominated by the city of Duluth. Filled with activity, Duluth is home to attractions like the Great Lakes Aquarium and University of Minnesota Duluth. The city hosts events, including the NorthShore Inline Skating Marathon - Indoors and outdoors, all year-round, any season is good for a visit to Duluth.

Duluth's Great Lakes Aquarium, off Interstate 35 on Harbor Drive, showcases the new Aquatic Invaders exhibit added in June 2011. Educational and interesting, visitors see and learn about the invasive species, leaving with an understanding how to help stop the impact to local waters. Be sure to visit the Art Gallery at the Aquarium for the Project Cuttlefish exhibit running through October 1st.

The Minnesota Ballet, based in Duluth, kicks off the 2011-2012 season with the world premiere of Dracula. Dracula performances run October 21st and 22nd, making an ideal cultural event to celebrate Halloween. Local and regional hockey fans gather in Duluth for the 2011 Spirit of Duluth Hockey Tournament December 9th through 11th. Matches feature Pee Wee, Bantam, and Jr Gold divisions, with teams playing a minimum of four games. Hockey venues include the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center, Duluth Heritage Sports Center and Fryberger Ice Arena.

Rochester is located along the Zumbro River off Interstate 90 in southern Minnesota. Home of the Mayo Clinic, the Rochester International Airport provides efficient access to the city, with daily connecting flights to the Minneapolis-St Paul International Airport. Accustomed to visitors, Rochester makes it easy to get around the city and hosts a number of wonderful events and attractions.
