Welcome to SPAMTOWN U.S.A. Austin, Minnesota is home to Hormel Foods Corporation, manufacturer of SPAM. Tour the factory and see if you can find out what SPAM is really made from. Or visit the SPAM Museum and learn about the meat's history as well as the background of its inventors. Proud of its namesake, every July 4th Austin has the “Spam Jam”- a carnival-like celebration with parades and fireworks often inspired by the famous lunch meat.
Go see what’s brewing in New Ulm, where Minnesotans have been crafting brews for centuries. Visit the August Schell Brewery, the nation's second-oldest family owned brewery. Take a tour of the plant and sample some of America’s finest beers, like Grain Belt and Grain Belt Premium Light. Or enjoy a cold one while dinning Deutsche-style. Most New Ulm restaurants serve traditional German meals, from sauerbraten, to landjaegers and sauerkraut. A New Ulm favorite is Bratwurst and Beer - Otto’s Feirerhaus and Bierstube Dining has the best - stop in for a beer and a brat.
Southern Minnesota has several vibrant wineries tucked into the landscapes of wooded hills. Stop by the Cannon River Winery in downtown Cannon Falls, near several antique shops, bed and breakfast’s, and the Cannon Valley Trail.
