Visiting Minnesota

Sure it's cold, but Minnesota's winter weather is anything but frightful. The snow only opens up opportunities for a whole set of different ways to have fun outdoors – everything from skiing and snowboarding to ice-fishing and snowmobiling. What's more, communities from Grand Marais to Bemidji to Albert Lea welcome visitors with even more family-friendly fun, hosting all sorts of special events and activities.

Families visiting Eagan can ring in the new year with residents at the Lebanon Hills Visitor Center on December 31st. The 2015 Family New Year's Eve celebration promises a little something for everyone, with candlelight hiking, snowshoeing, sledding, bonfires, and even a ball drop. The fun begins at 5 p.m.

Art lovers in Red Wing won't want to miss the 2016 Winter Art Fair. On January 23rd, visitors are invited to browse a large collection of vendor booths while enjoying some free live entertainment at Sargent's Nursery, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Making its long-awaited return after a 30-year break, the 2016 Winter Spectacular brings exciting snowmobile races and accompanying events back to the Historic "High Flyin' Half Mile" Viking Speedway in Alexandria, January 29th and 30th. Check individual race schedules to make sure you don't miss any of the high-octane action.

Foodies flock to the Wedgewood Cove Golf Club in Albert Lea for the 16th Annual Gourmet Chef's Auction on January 29th. Bid for your chance to taste some of the best appetizers, entrees, and deserts, starting at 5 p.m.

There's no way to have the quintessential Minnesota winter experience without a little pond hockey. On February 6th and 7th, join Mankato residents at Spring Lake Park, where 12 different rinks will be set up to host the 2016 Anthony Ford Pond Hockey Classic. Register to play or watch friends and family compete – two full days of festivities surrounding the games means fun for everyone.
