Rochester WinterFest XI is January 31st through February 10th, filling southern Minnesota with winter activity. The 2013 WinterFest features events including SocialICE at Peace Plaza in downtown Rochester with the ICE Bar & Wall of ICE; Whistle Binkies Pubs' 2013 Polar Bear Plunge, Frozen Turkey Bowling and Lutefisk eating contest; along with the Rochester Eagles Club SnoBall Softball Tournament – there’s a lot of winter fun at Rochester WinterFest XI.

Thief River Falls, 12 miles south of the Agassiz National Wildlife Refuge, is a snowmobiling gateway to far Northern Minnesota. Snowmobilers along the Wapiti Trail find Thief River Falls a warm and convenient rest stop. Come spring, Agassiz National Wildlife Refuge is a premier birding destination.
The area is located midway along Minnesota’s first birding trail, with over 280 species of birds spotted in and around Thief River Falls. Minnesota’s Pine to Prairie Birding Trail runs north to south, along a 223-mile route from Lake of the Woods south to Detroit Lakes and Fergus Falls.
