Lake Minnetonka

The Twin Cities area is not only home to many wonderful attractions, but to many wonderful lakes. Lake Minnetonka is just one of the many fine lakes, in the Minneapolis / Saint Paul region of Minnesota. Encompassing more than 14,500 acres of water, Lake Minnetonka features 125 miles of shoreline and an abundance of coves, bays and islands. It is one of Minnesota's largest lakes. For centuries, Native American tribes lived in the area, before it was found by two boys paddling up the Minnehaha Creek, in 1822.

The Lake Minnetonka name stems from an American Indian meaning of "big waters". Throughout the years, many cities were developed around the lake including, Minnetoka, Deephaven, Wayzata, Tonka Bay, Minnetrista and Spring Park. The lake has become quite a resort area.
