Spoonbridge & Cherry
Spoonbridge & Cherry in Minneapolis
One of 40 outdoor art pieces, the Spoonbridge & Cherry is an iconic staple of the 11-acre Minneapolis Sculpture Garden. Set in the Twin Cities metropolitan area, the famed Spoonbridge & Cherry is located on the grounds of the Walker Art Center in central Minneapolis.
Operated by the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, the Spoonbridge & Cherry installation was completed in 1988 by artists – and married couple – Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen.
Today, the must-see sculpture is the centerpiece of the Walker Art Center's Minneapolis Sculpture Garden. Made of aluminum and stainless steel, the sculpture is nearly 30 feet tall, complete with its 5,800-pound spoon and 1,200-pound cherry. The Spoonbridge & Cherry is also the largest of its kind – though it may be safe to say it's the only of its kind.
